Graduate Teaching Assistant in French and Francophone Studies
Adrien is a graduate student hailing from Calais, France. After studying American culture, history and literature for his Bachelor’s degree, Adrien arrived in Knoxville as a French language instructor in August 2014 and started a Master’s in the History Department the year after. Adrien is currently working on a thesis about rural education, class, gender and race in the early 20th century Southern Appalachians. Besides education and the dynamics of Progressivism in the American Mountain South, Adrien is also interested in New Orleans’ Voodoo and Louisiana’s history, which brings together French, Spanish, African, Caribbean and Native American languages, cultures, and spiritualties.
