Alan Van Brackel is an exchange student from Lille, France, and a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Among other activities, he organizes the French-speaking tables at UT. He is finishing a Master’s degree in American literature and culture at the university of Lille 3, France. He received his M.A. in information science in 2009 after a B.A. in French literature in 2007, with a minor in comparative literature. research interests include TV series and cultural studies, intertextuality, American literature of the 19th & 20th century, gender studies, popular culture, the Gothic novel, ghost stories, rock music, British theatre, and fan studies. His first-year master’s thesis was entitled “Tragedy in the American TV series ‘The Pretender’”. He still is working on "The Pretender", exploring intertextuality and interculturality, and is looking forward to work on Antiquity, still with an intercultural approach. Alan was a teacher and librarian, and journalist for several years. He is also a photographer and the editor in chief of several websites dedicated to popular culture.
